The session began with an opening song led by Anami and a prayer by Uvile.

  1. Introduction of the Topic

Facilitator Andrice Macuacua introduced the topic World Without Poverty Challenge. The discussion focused on the challenges faced by people in communities and strategies to overcome them. The session encouraged participants to develop innovative ideas to help reduce poverty and promote equality.

  1. Purpose of the Challenge

The World Without Poverty Challenge invites students to imagine and build a future where everyone has access to basic needs, education, employment, and dignity. The goal is to encourage creative, practical solutions toward ending poverty in all its forms.

  1. Key Content and Themes

Participants were encouraged to study the following themes before and during the event:

Understanding Poverty: Definition and dimensions of poverty; global and local perspectives.

Causes of Poverty: Social, economic, and environmental factors.

Case Studies: Successful poverty reduction programs worldwide.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 1 – No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

SDG 3 – Quality Education

SDG 4 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 5 – Reduced Inequality

  1. Design Thinking for Social Change

Students applied the Design Thinking Process to create innovative solutions for social change:

Empathy: Understand people’s needs.

Define: Identify the key problem.

Ideate: Brainstorm possible solutions.

Prototype: Create models or demonstrations.

Test: Share and improve based on feedback.

  1. Student Roles and Expectations

Before the Event:

Study materials on poverty and sustainable development.

Research community issues and examples of social innovation.

Prepare to collaborate with diverse peers.

Discussion Example:

Nonhlanhla raised a point about foreigners not attending school.

Facilitator Andrice Macuacua clarified that the issue is not nationality but the lack of necessary documentation.

During the Event:

Actively participate in all group sessions.

Respect all participants and promote teamwork.

Ask questions, share ideas, and think creatively.

Record insights and reflections.

After the Event:

Implement small-scale community versions of their ideas.

Stay connected with mentors and partners.

Students explored poverty-related challenges such as unemployment, food insecurity, and limited access to education. They brainstormed and selected ideas that were realistic and impactful.

Feasibility: Can it be implemented practically?

Participants shared their reflections:

Anami: Envisioned a world without crime where everyone lives peacefully.

Prisca: Imagined a better world with less struggle and reduced crime.

Anami (additional comment): Highlighted that everyone should have the right to education and food.

Katlego: Envisioned a world where everyone has shelter, food, and improved living standards.

The session concluded with a closing song led by Primrose and a closing prayer by Uvile.
