Objective

To collaborate with skilled and experienced trainers, particularly in nature crafting and youth development, to ensure that all activities are educational, developmentally appropriate, environmentally conscious, and aligned with the goals of the SayPro Development framework.

1. Trainer Recruitment & Selection

A. Trainer Criteria

Trainers selected should meet the following criteria:

Demonstrated expertise in nature-based crafts or environmental arts
Background in youth education, child development, or environmental science
Ability to facilitate hands-on workshops and engage diverse learner types
Understanding of sustainability principles and environmental ethics
Clear criminal background checks (for working with youth)

B. Sources of Trainers

Local artists working with natural/recycled materials
Environmental educators from NGOs or eco-centers
Art therapists with a nature-crafting focus
Community crafters and indigenous knowledge holders

2. Orientation and Onboarding

A. Trainer Briefing Sessions

Conduct a virtual or in-person orientation two weeks before camp.
Topics covered:

Camp objectives and SayPro Development goals
Participant age groups and needs
Daily schedule and session timing
Code of conduct and safety protocols
Required materials and craft station logistics

B. Materials and Session Planning

Each trainer submits a Session Outline Template including:

Workshop title
Learning objectives
Activity steps
List of materials
Expected outcomes (what participants will take away)
Risk assessment (e.g., sharp tools, allergies)

3. Collaborative Session Design

A. Co-Planning Meetings

Schedule at least one co-creation meeting with each trainer and the camp program coordinator.
Focus on:

Linking craft activities to SayPro development outcomes (e.g., teamwork, innovation, sustainability awareness)
Sequencing craft activities in progression (from simple to complex)
Integrating storytelling, environmental education, or leadership elements

B. Educational Value Alignment

Ensure every activity includes:

A brief educational talk or nature insight (e.g., about the trees used, eco-footprints)
A reflection component: how crafting connects to personal or environmental development

C. Flexibility and Adaptability

Trainers must be prepared with activity variations for:

Different age groups
Weather changes (indoor vs. outdoor adaptations)
Limited materials or higher participant turnout

4. On-Site Coordination During Camp

A. Daily Check-ins

Every morning: Brief 10-minute check-in with all trainers

Review schedule
Confirm material readiness
Address any issues from previous day

B. Trainer Support

Assign a SayPro volunteer or staff assistant to each trainer to:

Help with setup and cleanup
Manage materials distribution
Support youth engagement during hands-on portions

C. Observation & Feedback

Program Coordinator rotates through sessions to:

Observe facilitation style
Capture photos and outcomes
Offer real-time support or adjustment suggestions

5. Trainer Documentation & Resources
