SayPro Role Overview: February History Videos Curator and Producer
As part of SayPro’s Monthly February History Videos, the employee in this role will take on a critical position in curating, researching, and producing historical video content that supports SayPro’s educational and engagement objectives. This role is designed for someone who is passionate about history, education, and storytelling, and who can collaborate closely with the SayPro Digital and Creative teams to ensure content is high-quality, engaging, and aligned with the organization’s mission. The employee will be expected to manage the entire content creation process—from initial research to the final video product ready for distribution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research and Content Curation
- Topic Research: The employee will be responsible for researching relevant historical topics for February’s video series. This may involve exploring themes related to Black History Month, notable events, figures, movements, or other culturally significant moments that align with SayPro’s mission.
- Fact-Checking and Accuracy: Ensure that all historical information presented is thoroughly researched and fact-checked. Accuracy is crucial to maintain credibility and trust with the audience.
- Content Development: Select topics that engage, educate, and resonate with SayPro’s target audience. The employee should curate content that aligns with educational objectives and reflects diverse historical perspectives.
2. Scripting and Storytelling
- Script Writing: After selecting a topic, the employee will be responsible for writing the video script. The script should not only present historical facts but also weave them into a compelling narrative that educates and captivates the audience.
- Tone and Voice: Ensure the script maintains SayPro’s tone, which could range from educational to motivational, depending on the nature of the topic. The script must be accessible to a broad audience while still offering depth for those with an interest in history.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the SayPro Digital and Creative teams to ensure the script and storyline align with the broader content strategy. This includes adjusting the tone and language for different audiences, as needed.
3. Video Production
- Recording: Oversee or participate in the video recording process. This could involve narrating the script, interviewing experts or historical figures, or recording voiceovers. The employee should be comfortable with on-camera work or providing clear direction for any team members involved.
- Collaboration with Creative Team: Work directly with the SayPro Creative team, which may include videographers, sound technicians, graphic designers, and animators. Ensure all aspects of the production, including lighting, audio, and visuals, are handled effectively and in line with SayPro’s brand.
4. Editing and Post-Production
- Video Editing: Edit the raw footage, ensuring the video flows smoothly and is both engaging and informative. This includes trimming unnecessary content, adjusting audio levels, and adding visual elements such as photos, graphics, or animations.
- Visual Elements: Incorporate text overlays, transitions, and other visuals that enhance the storytelling and help clarify complex information. Ensure that the video is visually appealing, easy to follow, and maintains audience engagement.
- Sound and Music: Work with the sound team to select background music and sound effects that enhance the video’s mood, while ensuring audio clarity for narration and interviews.
5. Quality Control and Final Approval
- Review and Revisions: Conduct internal reviews of the video to identify areas that may require adjustments. This includes checking for any factual errors, unclear visuals, or areas that could be improved in terms of pacing, audio, or overall production value.
- Final Polishing: Ensure the final version of the video is polished and ready for release, with appropriate attention to detail in color grading, audio mixing, and other post-production elements.
- Stakeholder Approvals: Work with the SayPro leadership team or relevant stakeholders to get final approval before the video is distributed.
6. Distribution and Promotion
- Platform Optimization: Ensure that the video is optimized for SayPro’s website and other platforms (social media, email, etc.), making sure it is formatted correctly and adheres to platform specifications (e.g., video length, aspect ratio, resolution).
- SEO and Metadata: Collaborate with the SayPro Digital team to implement SEO-friendly titles, descriptions, and tags, ensuring the video is discoverable and reaches a broad audience.
- Social Media Strategy: Work with the Digital team to develop a social media strategy for promoting the video, including sharing teasers, behind-the-scenes content, and engaging posts to drive viewership.
7. Collaboration and Communication
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Communicate effectively with different departments, including the Digital, Marketing, and Creative teams, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed smoothly. This may include regular check-ins to discuss progress, content feedback, or video adjustments.
- Feedback Incorporation: Be open to constructive feedback from team members and stakeholders and incorporate suggestions to improve the final product.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- History Knowledge: A strong background or interest in history, with an ability to synthesize and present complex historical topics in an engaging way.
- Video Production Experience: Previous experience in video production, including scriptwriting, filming, editing, and post-production. Proficiency with editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.) is essential.
- Creative Thinking: Ability to creatively tell historical stories through video, utilizing visual elements and engaging techniques that capture and maintain the audience’s attention.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in ensuring that the video content is accurate, well-researched, and high-quality.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of teams.
- Project Management: The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently, ensuring timely delivery of content.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Educational Content: A background in producing educational content or working with historical material is a plus.
- Familiarity with SEO and Digital Marketing: Experience with search engine optimization (SEO), online video marketing, and content promotion strategies will be beneficial.
- Graphic Design Knowledge: Basic skills in graphic design or experience working with design teams for creating video assets like captions, thumbnails, and other visuals.
Expected Deliverables
- One polished historical video produced and ready for distribution by the end of each month, specifically tailored to February’s themes and SayPro’s educational objectives.
- Regular updates on progress, including research topics, video drafts, and final video submissions.
