SayPro Judging Criteria Template
Purpose:
This template outlines the criteria and scoring system to be used by judges to evaluate performances at SayPro events. It ensures fairness, transparency, and a comprehensive review of each performance based on clearly defined elements.
Evaluation Categories and Descriptions:
Judges will assign scores based on the following five key categories:
1. Creativity and Originality (20 points)
Definition:
The uniqueness of the performance concept, originality of content, and innovative presentation.
Considerations:
Is the performance imaginative and fresh?
Does it present a new perspective or artistic interpretation?
Are ideas expressed in an unexpected or thought-provoking way?
Scoring Guide:
0–5: Little to no originality
6–10: Some original elements but predictable
11–15: Strong creativity with distinct touches
16–20: Highly original and outstandingly creative
2. Technical Execution and Skill (20 points)
Definition:
The level of proficiency demonstrated in performing the selected medium (dance, music, speech, etc.).
Considerations:
Was the performance delivered with accuracy and control?
How well did the performer master their technique?
Were transitions smooth and timing precise?
Scoring Guide:
0–5: Weak technical performance, many errors
6–10: Moderate skill, some mistakes
11–15: Good technical ability, few errors
16–20: Flawless or nearly flawless execution
3. Cultural Significance and Relevance (20 points)
Definition:
The extent to which the performance reflects, honors, or draws from a particular cultural or social background.
Considerations:
Is there a clear cultural context or theme?
Was the representation respectful and authentic?
Does the piece educate or raise awareness about a culture?
Scoring Guide:
0–5: No apparent cultural connection
6–10: Weak or unclear cultural relevance
11–15: Meaningful connection to culture
16–20: Deeply rooted in cultural tradition with clear intent
4. Stage Presence and Engagement (20 points)
Definition:
The performer’s ability to connect with the audience and command attention throughout the performance.
Considerations:
Was the performer confident and expressive?
Did they maintain audience interest and interaction?
Were gestures, movement, and emotion appropriate?
Scoring Guide:
0–5: Disconnected or uncomfortable stage presence
6–10: Some confidence, limited engagement
11–15: Good presence and audience connection
16–20: Captivating, fully engaging performance
5. Overall Impact and Impression (20 points)
Definition:
The general effect of the performance as a whole—how memorable or powerful it was.
Considerations:
Did the performance leave a lasting impression?
Was it cohesive and well-structured?
Did it evoke emotion or provoke thought?
Scoring Guide:
0–5: Forgettable, poorly structured
6–10: Moderately interesting
11–15: Strong, impactful presentation
16–20: Exceptional and unforgettable performance
