As part of the SayPro Monthly January SCDR-7, the Resource Mobilisation Office is committed to educating at least 70% of employees involved in the resource mobilization efforts on how to select the right crowdfunding platforms for SayPro’s campaigns. This initiative will equip employees with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively choose platforms that align with campaign goals, enhance donor engagement, and maximize fundraising potential.

The focus of the educational reach is to ensure that employees understand the different types of crowdfunding platforms, how to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and how to select the most suitable platform for each specific campaign. By achieving this educational goal, SayPro aims to enhance the capacity of its team to make informed, data-driven decisions when choosing platforms for fundraising campaigns.

1. Educational Objectives

The primary objectives of the educational reach for this session include:

  • Enhancing Knowledge: Provide employees with a deep understanding of the types of crowdfunding platforms available, their benefits, limitations, and the specific features that make them suitable for different campaign goals.
  • Improving Decision-Making: Equip employees with a set of clear criteria for evaluating platforms, allowing them to make informed and strategic decisions regarding platform selection.
  • Aligning Campaign Goals with Platform Features: Ensure employees understand how to match a crowdfunding platform’s features (e.g., audience demographics, user interface, fees, and marketing tools) with SayPro’s campaign objectives and target audience.
  • Practical Application: Help employees apply this knowledge to real-world scenarios, encouraging them to analyze case studies, evaluate specific platforms, and participate in group discussions to improve their decision-making skills.

2. Target Audience for Educational Reach

The educational session will be targeted at the following groups within SayPro:

  • Resource Mobilization Team: The primary group responsible for fundraising efforts, including campaign managers, donor relations specialists, and fundraising strategists.
  • Marketing Team: Employees who will need to understand how the selected crowdfunding platforms integrate with broader marketing strategies, especially in terms of online promotion and donor outreach.
  • IT and Technical Support: Staff who will assist with the technical integration of crowdfunding platforms, ensuring that donor data, payments, and campaign tracking systems are smoothly connected.
  • Leadership: Members of the leadership team who need a high-level understanding of the platform selection process to provide oversight, approve recommendations, and guide strategic direction.

3. Educational Content and Topics Covered

The session will be structured to provide a comprehensive overview of the following key areas:

A. Types of Crowdfunding Platforms

  • Donation-based Crowdfunding: Platforms like GoFundMe, JustGiving, and GlobalGiving, where donors contribute money to causes without expecting any tangible return. Employees will learn when this model is most effective.
  • Reward-based Crowdfunding: Platforms such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, where backers receive rewards (e.g., products or services) in exchange for their contributions. Employees will understand how reward structures can drive donor engagement.
  • Equity-based Crowdfunding: Focus on platforms like SeedInvest and Crowdcube, which allow backers to invest in a business or venture and potentially gain equity. While this may be less common for nonprofit campaigns, understanding the model can help in certain specialized campaigns.
  • Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Lending Platforms: Explains how platforms like Kiva or LendingClub operate, where individuals can lend money to projects or businesses. This may be relevant for specific campaigns that focus on microfinancing or loans.

B. Key Evaluation Criteria

Employees will be introduced to a set of evaluation criteria that they can use to assess different platforms:

  • Audience Demographics: How well does the platform’s user base align with the target audience for the campaign?
  • Cost-Effectiveness: What are the platform’s fees (e.g., transaction fees, platform fees)? How do these fees compare with the campaign budget?
  • Usability and User Experience: How intuitive is the platform for donors and campaign organizers? Is it easy to set up campaigns, track progress, and manage donations?
  • Integration with SayPro’s Systems: How well does the platform integrate with SayPro’s CRM system, email marketing, and social media tools for seamless donor engagement?
  • Marketing and Promotion Features: What tools does the platform provide for promoting the campaign (e.g., social media sharing, email campaigns, SEO features)?

C. Real-World Case Studies and Success Stories

  • Case Studies: Employees will review case studies of successful crowdfunding campaigns, both from nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses, to understand what platforms were chosen and why.
  • Success Stories: Focus will be placed on how various platforms helped organizations achieve their fundraising goals. This could include:
    • A healthcare nonprofit raising funds for medical research using GoFundMe.
    • A technology startup launching a product via Kickstarter.
    • A disaster relief initiative using GlobalGiving for global outreach and donor trust.

D. Hands-On Exercises

  • Evaluating Platforms: Employees will engage in hands-on activities where they assess specific crowdfunding platforms based on the criteria presented. They will analyze multiple platforms, such as GoFundMe, Kickstarter, and Indiegogo, to determine their suitability for an upcoming campaign.
  • Platform Scenarios: In small groups, employees will be given hypothetical campaign scenarios (e.g., a local environmental campaign, an international health initiative, or a technology product launch). They will select the best platform(s) for each scenario and justify their choices using the evaluation criteria.

4. Methods to Achieve Educational Reach

A. Interactive Learning Environment

To maximize employee engagement and educational reach, the session will incorporate:

  • Live Polls and Quizzes: Real-time polls and quizzes to test knowledge and gauge understanding of key platform selection concepts.
  • Group Discussions: Encouraging group discussions where employees can share their experiences, ask questions, and collaborate on decisions. This fosters a deeper understanding of how to apply the selection criteria.
  • Case Study Analysis: Working through real-world case studies to demonstrate how the right platform was selected for specific campaigns.

B. Blended Learning Approach

The session will utilize a mix of learning formats:

  • Virtual Presentation and Q&A: A virtual presentation will provide the foundational knowledge on platform types, features, and evaluation criteria.
  • Supplemental Materials: Employees will be given access to supplemental materials, including guides, platform comparison charts, and evaluation templates, which will aid in their understanding and future platform selection tasks.
  • Recorded Session: For employees who are unable to attend live, a recorded version of the session will be made available for later viewing, ensuring that no one misses out on the learning opportunity.

5. Tracking Educational Reach

A. Pre-Session Assessment

A pre-session survey will be conducted to assess employees’ baseline knowledge of crowdfunding platforms. This will allow SayPro to tailor the session content to address any knowledge gaps.

B. Post-Session Survey

A post-session survey will be distributed to employees to assess their understanding and satisfaction with the session. Key metrics will include:

  • Understanding of Platform Features: Employees will rate their understanding of different platform types and their key features.
  • Confidence in Platform Selection: Employees will be asked how confident they feel in applying the selection criteria to future campaigns.
  • Feedback on Session Effectiveness: Employees will provide feedback on the clarity and usefulness of the session content.

C. Participation Tracking

SayPro will track participation rates during the session and ensure that at least 70% of employees involved in resource mobilization efforts attend and actively participate in the session. This will be tracked through:

  • Attendance records for live sessions.
  • Engagement analytics (e.g., responses to polls, participation in group discussions, and completion of exercises).

6. Post-Session Follow-Up

After the session, a follow-up email will be sent to all participants, summarizing key learnings, providing additional resources, and inviting them to share any questions or insights. Employees will also be encouraged to review the session recording if they missed any part of the session and to submit further feedback on their educational experience.

Additionally, to ensure long-term retention and application of the knowledge, refresher materials or mini-workshops may be offered periodically to reinforce the learning.

7. Conclusion

Achieving an educational reach of 70% of employees in resource mobilization is crucial to ensure that SayPro’s team has the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed and effective decisions when selecting crowdfunding platforms. This session will not only improve platform selection processes but also empower employees to execute successful fundraising campaigns that align with SayPro’s strategic goals.
