1. Overview

On 07 August 2019, SayPro, in partnership with Accenture, successfully delivered a full-day ICT Basic Skills training session to 15 participants. This initiative forms part of SayPro’s broader commitment to equipping individuals with digital skills essential for today’s job market and economic inclusion.


2. Objectives of the Training

  • To introduce participants to basic Information and Communication Technology (ICT) concepts
  • To build digital literacy and practical computer skills
  • To enhance the employability of participants through foundational digital competency
  • To promote collaborative partnerships in skills development

3. Training Content Covered

The session focused on the following key ICT areas:

  • Introduction to ICT – understanding hardware, software, and ICT’s role in society
  • Basic Computer Operations – navigating operating systems, using a mouse and keyboard
  • Microsoft Office Basics – overview of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Internet and Email Use – browsing safely, using search engines, creating and managing email accounts
  • Digital Communication – etiquette, using ICT tools for communication (e.g., email, instant messaging)

4. Participant Engagement

  • All 15 participants were actively involved in both theoretical and hands-on practical exercises
  • Participants asked questions and engaged in small group discussions
  • A short pre- and post-training assessment was conducted to evaluate knowledge improvement
  • Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with several participants expressing interest in further ICT training

  • Participants gained confidence in using digital devices and applications
  • Immediate application of skills such as email setup and internet navigation was observed
  • A few participants indicated they would now be able to apply for jobs online or improve job performance

Challenges:

  • A few technical glitches at the start (resolved quickly)
  • Varied levels of prior ICT exposure among participants

Recommendations:

  • Offer follow-up intermediate-level sessions
  • Allocate additional support for participants needing more time
  • Explore possibilities for remote learning modules for continuity

7. Conclusion

The ICT Basic Skills training delivered on 07 August 2019 by SayPro, in partnership with Accenture, was a resounding success. It reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to fostering digital inclusion and empowering individuals through practical, career-relevant skills.
