Beneficiary Success Stories Beneficiary Gratitude Sithole Background
Gratitude was a young man from Diepsloot, a township in Johannesburg known for its vibrant community and challenging circumstances. Determined to change his life, he enrolled at a university, eager to pursue higher education. However, after a year, he faced personal and financial challenges that led him to leave his studies unfinished. Returning to Diepsloot, Gratitude felt a sense of loss and uncertainty. His dreams seemed distant, and the weight of unfulfilled potential lingered. But Diepsloot, despite its hardships, is a place where resilience thrives. It was here that Gratitude discovered the Diepsloot Youth Project, an organization dedicated to empowering young individuals through education, skills development, and community engagement. The Diepsloot Youth Project offered programs in areas such as entrepreneurship, computer literacy, and life skills, aiming to equip youth with the tools to overcome adversity and build a better future. Gratitude joined the program, participating in workshops that reignited his passion for learning and personal growth. Through his involvement, Gratitude not only gained valuable skills but also found a renewed sense of purpose. He began to mentor others, sharing his experiences and encouraging them to pursue their aspirations. His journey from a university dropout to a community leader exemplifies the transformative power of support, education, and determination. Gratitude’s story serves as a reminder that setbacks do not define one’s future. With the right opportunities and mindset, it’s possible to turn challenges into stepping stones toward success.Beneficiary Tumisi Modiehi Background
My name is Tumisi Modiehi, a 25-year-old woman originally from Winburg, a small town in the Free State province of South Africa. Like many young people growing up in rural communities, I faced both the beauty and the challenges of a close-knit, but often under-resourced environment. I began my educational journey at Tlongkanyeng Primary School, where I developed a love for learning and the hope of building a better future. I later attended Ipopeng Secondary School, where I completed my matric in 2017. Determined to further my education, I enrolled at Motheo TVET College to study Human Resources (HR). However, due to personal and financial challenges, I was unable to complete my studies. In 2023, I made a bold and life-changing decision to move to Gauteng in search of better opportunities. It was not easy starting over in a new place, but I remained hopeful. One day in March 2024, while talking with a friend, I heard about an organisation called DYP (Diepsloot Youth Project). The way my friend spoke about it sparked my interest—especially because I had always wanted to gain computer skills and grow professionally. When I visited DYP, I was warmly welcomed by the team. From that very first interaction, I felt like I had found a place where I belonged—an environment that believed in young people and gave them tools to rise above their circumstances. Since joining DYP, my life has changed significantly. I have completed several courses including: Data Capturing Digital Marketing Business Administration Call Center Training Before DYP, I had very limited knowledge of computers. Today, I can confidently use various software applications and tools. I understand how to present myself professionally, and I’ve learned how to market products and services online. I now have skills that I never thought I could acquire. I am so grateful to DYP for opening this door for me. It has not only equipped me with practical skills but also restored my confidence and sense of purpose. I now look forward to building a meaningful career and giving back to my community by encouraging other young people not to give up on their dreams. My journey is far from over, but thanks to DYP, I am no longer standing still. I am moving forward—with knowledge, pride, and hope.
Beneficiary Precious Sephuma
Background
My name is Precious
Sephuma. I am originally from Limpopo, where I was raised by my single mother. After completing my Grade 12 in 2023, I made the decision to relocate to Gauteng with the hope of pursuing tertiary education. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and I couldn’t continue to university at that time. However, I refused to let that setback define me. I knew I needed to do something productive with my time. That’s when I came across DYP — and everything began to change. I first joined DYP as a student, eager to learn and grow. As time went on, I wanted to gain more experience, so I took the initiative to volunteer in the Events Department. This decision allowed me to not only expand my skills but also be part of a dynamic and supportive team. During my time at DYP, I completed eight short courses: ICT Basic Skills Computer Networking HIV & AIDS Awareness Computer Health and Safety Computer Cabling Computer Programming Business Administration Call Centre Operations Through these courses, I gained valuable knowledge and practical experience. I learned how to confidently use a computer and was even able to assist and guide new students at DYP. These opportunities helped me grow not just academically, but personally and professionally as well. I am truly grateful for the platform and support DYP has given me. The experience, skills, and confidence I’ve gained will stay with me forever and play a major role in shaping my future. To the DYP team — thank you. Thank you for believing in me, empowering me, and giving me a chance to build a better future. I will always carry this experience with pride and gratitude.PAGE 12
